General Requirements and Responsibilities

Please note that these requirements are specific to 2013-2014 participants, and may change for the 2014-2015 school year.  

Handbook

TNTP Academy participants receive a Program Handbook during Orientation.That handbook, which can also be downloaded here, provides a detailed overview of the program, including all requirements and participant responsibilities to remain in good standing with TNTP Academy. Key requirements and responsibilities are outlined below.

Essential Traits

All TNTP Academy participants -- including teachers, facilitators, and staff members, are expected to adhere to the program's Professional Values. These Values establish our shared beliefs and behavior standards. They are designed to strengthen our work towards improving educational opportunities and helping all students to achieve excellence.

 

Participants, facilitators, and staff members will:

  • Set high expectations for our students, our colleagues, and ourselves
  • Apply feedback
  • Use critical thinking
  • Be professional Respect one another

Program Responsibilities

As a participant, you are responsible for meeting the following basic responsibilities to remain in good standing with TNTP Academy:

 

  • Pass required Praxis PPST and Praxis II Subject tests
  • Successfully complete your program's summer Pre-service training program
  • Teach in the content area/grade level in which you are pursuing certification
  • Pass appropriate PLT/Special Education exams(s) for your certification area
  • Pass the Teaching Reading exam (if required for your certification area)
  • Maintain an active email account that you check regularly, in order to receive TNTP Academy updates and respond to any requests from TNTP Academy staff
  • Successfully meet requirements to pass TNTP Academy's Assessment of Classroom Effectiveness (ACE)
  • Attend Content and Technique Seminars
  • Pay TNTP Academy Tuition

Testing Requirements

As a participant, you must pass the following examinations in order to be eligible to apply for a Level 1 Teaching Certificate: 

  • Praxis I Pre-Professional Skills Tests (PPST) or appropriate exemption (required for enrollment)
  • Praxis II Subject Assessments (required for enrollment)
  • Principles of Learning and Teaching (PLT)
  • Special Education: Core Knowledge and Mild to Moderate Application Exam (required for certification in Special Education)
  • Teaching Reading Exam (required for certification in Early Childhood, Elementary and Special Education)
